Having missed
out on the BBC television program Flogit (http://www.bbc.co.uk/southerncounties/content/articles/2007/07/10/flog_it_event_feature.shtml),
which featured signs and old advertising in one episode, I felt a bit left out.
This week however, I have been trying to make up for it by taking part in filming
a new series of BBC One’s ‘Car Booty’ to be aired at 11:30 am on Monday 8th
September 2008. Series 10 Episode 6 can be viewed on line here - I come in right
at the end. http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00djr8y/
During the
episode, I buy a pile of Victorian and Edwardian advertising tins from a Lady
who has been collecting or more appropriately hoarding them for 30yrs.
I was initially
called in to value them for the program in Saint Albans, but ended up filming
for 7 hours and walking away £500 the lighter. The filming made an interesting
break from valuing private collections of old advertising and making valuations
for divorce proceedings! My father has been a valuer to the top auction houses
for Automobilia and garage related collectables in his time, but never as an
expert on TV so there is a bit of one-upmanship at work there.

On the same
weekend I filmed with Reef TV for the making of Series 22 of Bargain Hunt being
the collector - dealer who purchases a large enamel sign off Jonty Hearndon
at the Portobello Antiques market in London. I was called in to buy the old
sign and provide some expertise and market knowledge.
